No Spring Pickings For Black Caviar

The news we all were dreading came this morning.

Black Caviar will not feature in this year’s spring carnival.

Trainer, Peter Moody stated Black Caviar’s racing future will be decided after the Australian Horse of the Year awards in September.

"All the owners will be in town then and we can sit down and have a good discussion about what to do with her," he said to the Herald Sun.

"We have two options. If we retire her after that meeting she's still got plenty of time to go to stud. Otherwise we will give her a decent spell and bring her back for the autumn."

The champion mare made it 22 wins from as many starts in the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last month but injured her back during the race.

Moody has decided to rest Australia’s glamour sprinting mare from the spring carnival after a hectic schedule.

"She's just needed time to get over her trip to England," Moody told the Herald Sun.

"She's had a really busy time in the past year or so and just needs a break to get over it. She's fine in herself and she's recovered from her injuries, but it would be asking a lot of her to have only a couple of weeks off and then be ready for the spring."

The Moonee Valley Racing Club was hopeful that Black Caviar would contest in the Sportingbet Manikato Stakes on Cox Plate eve 26th October.
